Ginger Ginger is a member of the
Zingiberaceae family. It is a herbaceous flowering perennial plant
which grows about one foot tall with narrow leaves, and produces clusters of
white and pink flower buds that bloom into yellow flowers. Ginger is
native to Southeast Asia, and has grown as far as Hawaii. It was
traded as a spice in Asia and Europe, and was used by Ancient Greeks and
Romans. World production has reached 2.8 million tons with India
consuming 32% of the world total.
Ginger was first written about during the Warring States period (475-221
